Glass used in gas, wood, and coal burning appliances are subjected to different temperatures. The glass used must be compatible with the temperatures produced. Knowing the breakage pattern of the glass being replaced is most helpful in selecting the correct replacement product.
Tempered glass is typically used in fireplace doors or screens. When broken the entire glass will fragment into small bits.
Ceramic glass is typically used in stoves and inserts. Also known as Pyroceram, Neoceram, or Robax, it has a light amber tint and may have some texture to it’s surface. It typically breaks in long lines.
Tempax glass is also used in stoves and inserts. Also known as Borofloat or Borosilicate glass, it is crystal clear in color. It also typically breaks in long lines.
